Learn about Balanced Design Planning
We will discuss issues raised by teachers and students about digital assessment with Bart Rienties, professor of Learning Analytics and programme lead of the learning analytics and learning design research programme at the Institute of Educational Technology at the Open University UK.
Bart Rienties will present "Digital assessment: insights from a thousand teachers using Balanced Design Planning" focusing on the free-to-use Balanced Design Planning tool. This tool has been developed with more than 1,000 teachers from 20 different countries. It has engaging learning designs, which include data on intended learning outcomes, digital assessment, and automated learning analytics.
Following research from the iLED project, Bart’s talk will discuss the preliminary lessons learned on how those teachers make use of different forms of digital assessment and how assessments are linked to learning outcomes.
The Revolution of Chat GPT
The event continues on the subject of potential problems of plagiarism. This especially relevant following the launch by OpenAI of ChatGPT, a language-generation model that can also write student assignments.
John Domingue, full Professor of Computer Science at the Knowledge Media Institute, the Open University’s technology Research and Innovation Centre and the President of STI International, will share with us a presentation on "How GPT-4 and Successors will change Digital Assessment".
The presentation will cover the basics of the technology as well as concepts and pilots that are being progressed at the Open University. This work has explored how GPT-3 and GPT-4 can support question answering, question generation and content creation within a range of disciplines.
Join the conversation
During the last part of the event, a 30-minute panel discussion with the moderator and speakers will shed light on the following questions:
- What are the opportunities for digital assessment to support student learning?
- What are the challenges that digital assessment presents for its major Stakeholders?
A question and answer session will conclude the event.
